On Saturday, Marlon Sandro will fight Pat Curran in the Bellator 48 Featherweight tournament final. Before I make my prediction, let's break down the two fighters.
Marlon Sandro trains out of Nova Uniao alongside UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo. Because of this you seem flashes of Aldo in his striking. Sandro is definitely a striker. He has good jiu jitsu and has three finishes in his career by submission, but he would prefer to stand and strike. I see Sandro have an advantage in the striking department.
Pat Curran trains out of Team Curran with his cousin and coach Jeff Curran. Pat is more wrestling based in his MMA approach being a high school stand-out wrestler. However in the last few fight his striking has improved and he did go the distance against Bellator Lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, after defeating Roger Huerta and Toby Imada.
Both men cruised through the tournament with relative ease. Sandro is listed as the favorite heading into this fight by Vegas odds makers. However, I believe Curran's defensive/counter striking style favors him in this fight. I also believe he will utilize his wrestling to try and put Sandro on his back.
Curran via Unanimous Decision.
